Kompany: Kane Has Reached the Next Level on His Own; Davies Set to Return Soon 3 hours ago / abdou

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is giving no credit to himself for Harry Kane's incredible scoring run this season, insisting that the striker’s stunning form is the result of his own hard work and hunger.
Kane has scored 11 goals in six league matches, bringing his total to 18 goals in all competitions for Bayern this season, with the Bavarians winning all 10 of their games. The England captain also netted twice in a 5-0 victory over Latvia on Tuesday, securing their spot at the 2026 World Cup.

When asked about Kane’s comment that Kompany had helped him improve, the coach shrugged off the compliment.

> "He has unlocked that next level himself," Kompany said at a press conference ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund.
"He has always done it in his career. His development is a mentality thing. He worked every year. Maybe it helped that he had not won the titles until then, because he kept that hunger that you expect from young players."

Regarded as one of the greatest strikers of his generation, the 32-year-old had won numerous individual awards but no team trophy at Tottenham Hotspur or Bayern until breaking the ‘Kane title curse’ last season with the Bundesliga trophy.

> "You cannot develop such a player further," Kompany added. "He has to want it."

Belgian coach Kompany hopes Kane’s scoring run continues against Dortmund, who sit just four points behind Bayern in second place and remain unbeaten in both domestic and European competitions this season. Dortmund have conceded only one league goal in their last five matches.

> "It’s first against second, both teams unbeaten," Kompany said. "It is clear why this match is being made so big. We are both undefeated, so it’s two fists going against each other."

Meanwhile, Alphonso Davies is working hard to make a comeback after his serious knee injury.

> "It is particularly pleasing that Davies could return to the team soon. I had initially hoped he would be back at the beginning of January – but as things stand now, he may be back a little earlier," Kompany said.
"If he can play a few more games in December, then everyone has done a wonderful job. His body has to respond to the new strain week after week. If things continue to go well, then a very fit Alphonso will be back in December."
